The Third Workshop on “Connecting Physical World to Metaverse using IoT and Digital Twin Platforms (Meta-XP)”

Call for Papers

Recently, future-oriented technologies and services are attracting global attention, especially “Metaverse” (a portmanteau combining the words ‘meta’ and ‘universe’). Various companies and academics leading global Networks and Communications are also speeding up research on core technologies required for Metaverse. In order to build a future world that dynamically combines virtual and physical spaces, technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Sensor and Internet of Things (IoT) platforms, Digital Twins, Blockchain, and 6G technologies are recognized as core technologies for Metaverse. For example, consider a future Metaverse service in which an avatar in a virtual space stops at a store to buy a product then the actual item is delivered to the house. The Metaverse platform will utilize blockchain technology for monetary transactions and IoT platforms to automate these services.

Therefore, in this workshop, we look for novel research papers on core technologies required to support future Metaverse services. Through this workshop, participants can predict the evolution of future Metaverse services in advance and increase their understanding of the global R&D of core metaverse technologies.

Submitted papers in this workshop are expected to focus on state-of-the-art research in various aspects of Metaverse services using IoT and Digital Twin platforms from academics and industry viewpoints. The aim of this workshop is thus to offer a venue where researchers from both academia and industry can publish premier articles on the recent advances in theory, application, and implementation of the Metaverse concepts using IoT and Digital Twin platforms.

Papers describing technologies and ideas that can be used in IoT and Digital Twin platforms for Metaverse are also welcome. The workshop and its topics are timely and highly relevant to create a Metaverse ecosystem.

Submitted papers in this workshop are expected to focus on state-of-the-art research in various aspects of Metaverse services using IoT and Digital Twin platforms from academics and industry viewpoints. The aim of this workshop is thus to offer a venue where researchers from both academia and industry can publish premier articles on the recent advances in theory, application, and implementation of the Metaverse concepts using IoT and Digital Twin platforms.

  • Experiences and field trials of Metaverse with IoT and Digital Twin
  • Security, trust, privacy and identity in the Metaverse

  • Data optimization in Metaverse
  • Interoperability between Metaverse platforms
  • AI for Digital Twin and Metaverse
  • Synchronization of physical world and virtual world

Submissions Guide

Submitted papers must represent original material that is not currently under review in any other conference or journal and has not been previously published. Paper length should not exceed the six-page standard IEEE conference two-column format (including all text, figures, and references). Please see the Author Information page for submission guidelines in the IEEE MetaCom 2026. All submitted papers will go through a peer review process. All accepted and presented papers will be included in the IEEE MetaCom 2026 proceedings. IEEE reserves the right to exclude an accepted and registered but not presented paper from the IEEE digital library. Scope and timeliness

The aim of this workshop is thus to offer a venue where researchers from both academia and industry can publish premier articles on the recent advances in theory, application, and implementation of the Metaverse concepts using IoT and Digital Twin platforms.

Planned format of the workshop including no. of referred papers, hot topic sessions, keynotes, and panel discussions

  • The organizers expect to have at least 15 paper submissions. The acceptance ratio will be decided following a discussion with the TPC chairs and members. The accepted papers will be distributed in several oral presentation and poster sessions.
  • The hot topics to be used in call for papers are mentioned later in the proposal.
  • Panel discussion – the workshop organizers will arrange a panel discussion on required platforms for Metaverse.
